District Swimming Gala 2004

Scouts and Explorers retain trophies

1st North Springfield Scouts and the PIES Explorers retained the trophies they have won for the last two years at Saturdays Annual Chelmsford and District Scout Swimming Gala. The scouts managed to field two teams in their events, the slightly older and more experienced Sharks and the younger Dolphins. Sharks team swimmers, David Bracken and Tim King both took first place in the 1 length freestyle and 1 length backstroke respectively. David Kett just missed out on third place in the final of the 1 length breaststroke for the sharks. These three were joined by Max Lewis to win the 4x1 freestyle relay in a fantastic team effort which culminated in an amazing last length by David Bracken which brought the team from 3rd to 1st place by a touch. Dolphins swimmer, Richard Edwards, also made the final in the 1 length freestyle event coming in 5th place. The other members of the Dolphins team, Steven Pattison, Matthew Kett and Daniel Frost, put in a spirited performance earning some tremendous experience for next year’s event.

The PIES Explorer scouts went one better than their younger counterparts by winning all of their events against only one other explorer team. Michael Bracken and Jack Lewis repeated their triumphs of last year to win the 1 length freestyle and 1 length breaststroke respectively. New team member Philip Manning kept up the good work to win the 1 length backstroke event. Greig Hudson joined the individual winners to make it clean sweep in the 4x1 freestyle relay event.
